1. Introduction

This section defines the seven Global Services that are specified in the V1 GSS. See also the definitions provided in GssDefinitions.

2. V1 Registry Services

Five Global Registry Services are specified in the V1 GSS – two Global I-Name Services and three Global I-Number Services. The registrations permitted in each Global Registry are specified in the Registrant Qualification section of GssPolicies/RegistrarPolicies.

2.1. Global I-Name Services

Two public registries for Global I-Names (reassignable XRIs) are defined. See GssPolicies/InamePolicies and the InameInumberTechFaq.
2.1.1. Global Personal I-Name Service
Global Personal I-Name Service is intended for registration of Global I-Names representing individuals. The identifier for this Registry is the GCS "=" character.
2.1.2. Global Organizational I-Name Service
Global Organizational I-Name Service is intended for registration of Global I-Names representing any organizational entity or asset. The identifier for this Registry is the GCS "@" character.

2.2. Global I-Number Services

Three public registries for Global I-Numbers (non-reassignable XRIs) are defined. See GssPolicies/InumberPolicies and the InameInumberTechFaq.
2.2.1. Global Personal I-Number Service
Global Personal I-Number Service is intended for registration of Global I-Numbers representing individuals. The identifier for this Registry is the GCS "=" character followed by the XRI delimiter for persistent identifiers, "!".
2.2.2. Global Organizational I-Number Service
Global Organizational I-Number Service is intended for registration of Global I-Numbers representing any organizational entity or asset. The identifier for this Registry is the GCS "@" character followed by the XRI delimiter for persistent identifiers, "!".
2.2.3. Global Network I-Number Service
Global Network I-Number Service is intended for registration of Global I-Numbers representing XDI.ORG-Accredited Registrars who will further delegate Network I-Numbers to other Network Authorities within their own Network I-Number space. The identifier for this Registry is the GCS "!" character followed by the XRI delimiter for persistent identifiers, "!".

3. V1 Resolution Services

One global resolution service is specified in the V1 GSS.

3.1. Public Authority Service

Public Authority Service provides a set of well-known URIs as the starting point for XRI resolution of Global I-Names or Global I-Numbers registered in any of the five V1 Global Registry Services. It will also provide a well-known endpoint for a public HTTP Proxy Resolver. See GssPolicies/PublicAuthorityPolicies, GssOpSpecs, and the ResolutionTechFaq.

4. V1 Data Protection Services

One data protection service is specified in the V1 GSS.

4.1. Public Trustee Service

Public Trustee Service is an optional service available to Personal and Organizational Registrants that provides an alternative means of authentication for changes to a GRS registration in case the Registrant loses access to the Registrant's Shared Secret.
